A man who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the authorities about his worries.
She stated the man continued to play the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.
She stated the man then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five children.
