On Tuesday, reporters observed nearly empty streets in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. This stood in sharp contrast to the city's typical weekday activity.

Armored vehicles were spotted cruising along primary thoroughfares and junctions, while officers took up positions at strategic locations, including around key public infrastructure.

On social media, activists and campaigners urged followers to remain vigilant, suggesting any demonstrations were unlikely to begin until the afternoon. This communication mirrored past mobilization efforts in the country, when turnout increased later in the day.

Drivers who went out experienced regular stops at security checkpoints, where officers questioned drivers about where they were headed.

Government Stance and Bans

Authorities have not provided detailed comments on the increased security or on the scheduled demonstrations.

Tanzanian authorities have banned the intended demonstrations and called off independence anniversary events, advising the public to remain at home.
