The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
