The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Displeasure Regarding Sizing Modifications

Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.

This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying every member regarding the update.

Digital Channels Response

Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification versus the original listing due to the recalibration.

The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.

The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size if necessary, which has left users frustrated.

Measurement Approach Updates

Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, like S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

User Experiences

Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

A different member, from Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.

Manual Updates

Another shopper, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".

"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she stated.

Marketplace Information

The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
